about

My strength is in my multiple passions . . .

I believe that the saying “Jack of all trades, master of none,” (or in my case “Jill”) is outdated. Pursuing what lights us up, refusing to be defined by one role, and integrating and aligning all the hats we wear (and I wear many metaphorical hats) is what helps us live in our integrity.

I show up to everything I do, from the mat to meetings, with a sense of mindfulness, presence, and focus that allows me to juggle all that I love, while giving whatever I’m doing my full attention.

I have been working as a yoga teacher, writer, and PR professional for over a decade.

I have written hundreds of articles, taught hundreds of yoga classes, and helped a number of hotels and resorts successfully launch and then maintain quality media coverage long after they have cut the red ribbon on opening day.

A Rough Highlights Timeline

In 1989,

  • when I was seven years old, my parents took me out of school in New Zealand for six months to travel around Europe and North America. I was hooked. All I wanted to do was travel.

In 2002,

  • after finishing a Bachelor of Business with a joint major in Marketing and Communications, I left New Zealand and headed to South Korea where I worked for a year.

In 2007

  • I completed my first yoga teacher training at Sun & Moon Yoga Tokyo, and started teaching after the course finished.

In 2010

In 2011

  • I completed my STOTT Pilates teacher training in Bangkok, Thailand.

In 2012

  • I completed my second yoga teacher training with Hart Lazer in Hanoi, Vietnam.

In 2014

  • I became a mom.

In 2017

  • I had my second child.

In 2019

  • I got certified to offer Reiki, an energy healing practice.

In 2020

  • I formed a collective, Mother Wild, with five inspiring women who want to create a supportive, nourishing version of motherhood. We co-wrote a children’s book that (spoiler alert) is really for the mothers. We launched virtual retreats and started a monthly subscription service where we offer workshops on topical themes.

HOME IS
WHERE MY
FAMILY IS

I have lived and worked as a freelance writer, yoga teacher, and PR consultant in Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, the United States and India. I currently live in the world’s second snowiest city, Sapporo, in Hokkaido, Japan.

Throughout all the moves and life transitions, I have kept writing.

I have written for a range of publications including Conde Nast Traveller, Travel + Leisure, CNNGo and The Japan Times, as well as the inflight magazines of major airlines.

Over the years I have also contributed to several travel books including National Geographic’s Sacred Places of a Lifetime and Food Journeys of a Lifetime, and Explorer Publishing’s Tokyo: The Complete Residents’ Guide.

I’ve included all that I do on this one page as they all contribute to who I am.

I draw on all the skills garnered from following my various passions to create a well-rounded offering to my clients whether they are after personalized yoga instruction; or they are a hotel, resort or company looking for quality, well-written content (from press releases to blog articles) that reflect the quality of their brand.
